Faxaway Quick Start

All you need to use Faxaway is the ability to send and receive email. Faxaway does not require that you have World Wide Web or Internet access.

Faxaway is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows. If you are using an operating system other than Windows, please see our guidelines for Macintosh users or contact customer support to check compatibility.

Sending Messages

Address your email message to 'faxnumber'@faxaway.com. Include the country code, followed by the area or city code, then the fax number even if you are sending to a local fax number. Do not include international dialing codes (011 or 0), spaces, or non-numeric characters (dashes or parenthesis). These or other non-numeric characters will cause Faxaway to reject the message.

If you wish to send the same message to more than one number but fewer than 10, add additional fax numbers in the To: or Cc: fields of your email. You can send the same message via Faxaway and email, but be sure to place the Faxaway address first in the To: field of your email. Faxaway cannot read fax numbers listed in the Bcc: field of your email.

For example, to send a test fax to Faxaway Customer Support, address the email to 12064797500@faxaway.com.

Country code = 1 (United States); City/Area Code = 206; Local fax number = 4797500

Text Messages
This method is used to fax any text typed in the body of an email message. When your fax is sent out, the To: field will display the recipient's fax number; the From: field will display your email address; and Subject: will display your email's subject: (maximum 50 characters for the subject field).

Attached Documents
To fax a document you have already created, put the keyword FAXDOC in the subject line of the email and attach the document or file to the email. Do not write any text in the body of the email when sending an attached document. Turn off any automated signatures, verify that your email program is set to send in plain text only and that your document format is supported.

Example:

To: faxnumber@faxaway.com
Subject: FAXDOC
Body: Use your email program to insert or attach the file you want to send.

Specifying A Fax Recipient's Name
If you wish to add a name in the To: field to appear in the fax, type the name with an underscore between each name and a period between the name and the fax number:

Example: Arthur_England.441712345678@faxaway.com

The maximum length for the name and fax number combined is 50 characters.

Specifying A Room Or Extension Number
You may also specify an extension or room number using the following format:

Arthur_Englund_Room_210_.441712345678@faxaway.com

Be sure to place an underscore ("_") after each element of the extension and a period (".") between the extension and the fax number. The maximum length for the name, extension/room number and fax number combined is 50 characters.

Account Basics

Faxaway determines your Main Account from the email address in the "From:" field of your email. If you send Faxaway an email with information in the "From:" field that is at all different from your account, Faxaway will think that you are a new user. If your email address changes in any way, let us know. Or, if you have several different email addresses, you need to register them as sub-account addresses.

Each account may have one main address and unlimited sub-account addresses.

For security purposes, the main address must be used to make any adjustments to accounts such as adding or deleting sub-account addresses or changing billing information.

Helpful Tips

When you send a fax through Faxaway, each message generates an automatic response called a confirmation message.

Once your email reaches Faxaway's system, the first attempt to fax the document will be made immediately. We'll make up to four attempts to send the fax before we notify you of a failed transmission. Faxaway will always send you a confirmation telling you the status of the fax transmission.

If you have not received a confirmation within ten minutes (some times it can take up to an hour), please use the Interactive Command LIST CALLS to verify the status of all pending faxes.
